This
is Page 8, the last page of How to make a Minecraft costume for you children.
Of course if your child's eyes line up with the character's, great, but obviously it is more important that they can see and breath! So you may need to use the mouth or just place the holes whereever. I found a box cutter or sharp steak knife worked fine.
Cutting the boxes, painting them, adding elastic straps:
I try to find long narrow boxes of the right size and shape, to
minimize the amount of cutting, bending and duct taping I'll need to
do.
I first spay paint them the appropriate base color.
Then I cut out an opening at the top for my son's thigh and at the
bottom
for his ankle. Obviously, the top cutout is
about twice the
size as the ankle (bottom) cutout.
Then I duct tape a piece of elastic strap to the inside securely. I put just above the knee, where it will stay.
I'll tie this in a bow around his leg when he wears it.
You will notice I only do 3 sides, I leave the back open which gives them much greater freedom of movement and comfort.
I can nor glue any skins (images I printed) if we want do.
In many cases, just the base color is more than enough. Of
course,
again if you are OCD, trying to win an award or going to ComicCon,
you'll probably go all out and do all sides.
I'll be sitting on the porch with beer while you're doing that...
Lacquering the finish costumes to help waterproof them.
Otherwise, the printed skins will eventually run with any moisture.
As I pointed out earlier, with just the head and torso boxes, you've got a pretty good costume. But you can do the arms and legs, too.
That about doubles your workload, though, since you have to do the same entire process for each arm and leg as the head and body, and even though they are smaller, it still takes time.
If you skip the images (skins) on the arms and legs, then it doesn't take that long. I'm going to try both ways and show the results here in a few days.
NOW YOU'RE DONE! :)
